Have Nick Clegg’s “Lies” Cost Lib Dems Sheffield Hallam Seat?

A predominantly student Sheffield Hallam seat could be up for the taking due to Nick Clegg’s apparent “betrayal” of students five years ago.

Up and down the country there is an expectation of a seats being dedicated to either Labour or Conservative; however the Sheffield Hallam seat may now up for grabs. With Sheffield Hallam votes being made up by 47% of students, the current Liberal Democrat hold could now switch allegiance due to the influence student voters possess.

Only 16% of 18-24-year-olds are certain to vote in the election with many suggesting their ”vote won’t change anything”, with voters aged over 75 being more than four times likely to be certain to vote. Sheffield Hallam is a unique case where students determine the outcome – just one of ten areas across the UK.

Sheffield’s Leadmill Celebrates turning 35 with Pulp’s Jarvis Cocker

Leadmill were joined for their 35th birthday bash by Sheffield legend Jarvis Cocker, BBC 6Music, Mystery Jets and Slow Club last night.

Pulp frontman Cocker, turned DJ as he played a set to a packed out Leadmill crowd, as he was joined by Steve Mackey and resident indie DJ Adam Morely.

Earlier in the day, BBC 6 Music’s Steve Lamacq broadcasted live from the club as part of the celebration, with live performances from the Mystery Jets with support from Sheffield’s own Slow Club.

75 Years on: Remembering the Sheffield Blitz

12 December 1940, Britain had been at war with Germany for more than a year and Sheffield was about to be blitzed.

Sheffield Street Market Returns to Sharrow Vale

Thousands of people flocked to Sharrow Vale Road on Sunday to experience diverse food stalls and entertainment.

Around 4000 people turned up between 12pm and 4pm, to taste the goods of the dozens of stalls, independent local shops and to watch local dancers and musicians, of the Sheffield street.

Jane Dove, 43, of the “Jammalade” jam and marmalade stall said: “It’s a really fun day out for everyone. The community gets together and puts on a show and people can experience something that they wouldn’t normally get to see.”

Sheffield Iron Athlete Gym Hosts its 8th Powerlifting Competition

sOn Saturday, Iron Athlete Gym saw close to 100 spectators and 24 competitors for its eighth powerlifting competition, won by James Jones and Ali Jackson, in the men’s and women’s events. iron athlete James, 25, Sheffield squatted 310kg (the weight of an adult Brown Bear) on his way to taking the competition title, winning overall with a total of 812.5kg over three events. He said: “I’m happy that I’ve won the competition, powerlifting isn’t a big sport so it’s good that there are places like this where you can compete against others and the atmosphere is brilliant.” Continue reading
